Our handcrafted floating shelves are produced from solid English beech, transcending the conventional concept of shelves. Beech is notable for its variety of hues, and once felled, the tree sometimes experiences a process known as spalting, which manifests the distinctive black lines in our shelves.
Spalting is essentially a fungal growth in the felled tree, which might sound unfavorable but fear not, it is entirely harmless. The resultant unique patterns, created by the fungus, contribute to the allure of our shelves. Once these patterns are formed, the timber is milled, dried, and prepared for use, eradicating any residual fungus and leaving only the characteristic patterns intact.
The level of spalting in a piece of wood is unpredictable until planed and sanded, adding an element of intrigue and excitement to our crafting process. Nonetheless, we guarantee that your shelf will feature some spalting, aligning with the distinctive nature of our Spalted Beech Shelves.

Operating from our countryside-based family workshop, we take pride in our years of carpentry expertise. Each of our wooden pieces is handmade, crafted to order in our workshop. We ardently believe in the conservation of wood. Consequently, we source most of our wood from local saw mills that salvage trees felled during projects like HS2, which would have been wasted otherwise. The salvaged wood is then repurposed into these magnificent creations.
Customization Options
All our shelves are made to order, accommodating your preferences to the best of our ability. If you desire alterations in the dimensions of the shelves, do not hesitate to contact us. While customizing the depth of the shelves, we might suggest an alternative mounting system for optimal functionality.
